Thanks for visiting our site. Leatherhead Badminton Club has been running, in various forms, for nearly 40 years and has seen members come and go since the early days in 1989. We are a small, friendly club with a core membership of around 15 people, all of roughly intermediate standard, so if you would like to join us, take a look through our site and see what you think - if you like what you see, we'd be delighted to see you one Wednesday evening for a workout.
We don't take part in any inter-club tournaments, nor do we have ladders and we are not associated with any associations or societies. In fact we have only just adopted the 'new' scoring system. We have a mixture of men and women - but we are an 18+ club; we are not DBS certified.
One important point; we play with plastic shuttlecocks not feathers.
The format of the games tends to be mix and match - so everyone gets a game with everyone else - or at least that's the plan. We have two courts for 2½ hours and tend to get between 6 and 12 people per session - so there is always plenty of action - if you are up for it! Like any group, we are a miscellaneous collection of characters and skills; essentially of an intermediate standard. We have players of both sexes
We are competitive but relaxed, we have never come to blows over decisions and are honest enough to own up to double hits and other errors. Whilst we are all there to enjoy ourselves, we do play hard, so if you are just looking to stay fit, this may not be the club for you. We only have one rule; if you find you are not winning games within the first month of your membership, then you might consider trying another club. And, don't forget you need to be 18 or over. All games are doubles (unless there is a spare court) and we simply swap partners and opponents until it's time to go to the pub...and, no, you don't have to come, but everyone is welcome/encouraged!
The cost of playing is £20.00 per month, this covers all games during the month - four or five - and includes insurance. There are no other costs. You are not expected to pay for the first few sessions until you feel it is the right club for you.
We are affiliated as a club to Badminton England.
